The Association’s charitable work includes Church Recording and Heritage Volunteering. Heritage Volunteers The Heritage Volunteers may be asked to help conserve or catalogue books, manuscripts, archives and maps, conserve or clean textiles or metalwork, or act as guides or stewards in museums, historic houses or gardens. Appropriate training is given by professionals. Our trusty band of Heritage Volunteers are continuing work at The Willliam Salt Library in Stafford. We have completed the "Improve the Image" project where we were involved in remounting old photographs from villages and towns all over Staffordshire. At present we are cataloguing the Thorneycroft family scrap books. It makes fascinating reading about Wolverhampton in the 19th century, when the family was involved in the social, political and industrial events of the era. We usually meet on Mondays, alternating mornings and afternoons. If anyone would like to join us for just two hours a fortnight, please contact David Brass (see below). In September, the Friends of the William Salt displayed photographs of our project on their stand at the Stafford Historical Societies Fair. We displayed this again at the Regional Meeting of the NADFAS Heritage Volunteers held at the Pump Rooms in Royal Leamington Spa in October. We have also been to Blithfield Hall to dust the books in the Library as a single day project. Three volunteers attended a Ceramics Day at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery Collections Centre in January 2008 In addition, one of our members, Lindy Mucklow, completed a dining chair tapestry seat for Coughton Court, Warwickshire, working with Stratford DFAS. All the dining chairs will eventually have seats like this, except that the shields will differ. Lindy has also worked the NADFAS Kneeler which was presented to St Saviour Church, Aston by Stone when the Church Record was presented on October 8th 2006.
